Meet Duncan R. Hickman
Duncan Hickman is an attorney and real estate professional with eight years of experience in corporate law, acquisitions, and land development. As Associate General Counsel and Real Estate Project Manager for Industrial Development Advantage (IDA), Duncan plays a key role in structuring transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing risk for the firm’s industrial and commercial development projects. His work aligns IDA’s strategic investments with both legal requirements and business goals, driving sustainable growth and value creation.
In his project management role, Duncan oversees site selection, management, and business development efforts. He works directly with end-users to assess partnership opportunities and create long-term development strategies. His focus on brownfield and Superfund redevelopment includes evaluating vertical integration opportunities and ensuring that remediated sites are positioned for productive, sustainable reuse.
Duncan brings a strong background in finance and real estate, with extensive experience negotiating acquisitions, managing contracts, and conducting due diligence for large-scale projects. He regularly collaborates with state and federal agencies to ensure compliance with EPA regulations and environmental remediation standards, helping unlock the investment potential of previously contaminated properties.
Earlier in his legal career, Duncan represented clients on both sides of litigation, defending contractors in construction defect claims and later advocating for plaintiffs in personal injury and premises liability cases. This experience gives him a comprehensive understanding of risk, liability, and litigation strategy—perspectives he applies to his legal and business decision-making at IDA.
